"You are successful the moment you work toward a positive goal."

How is confidence gained through Martial Arts training? Discovering how your body, mind and spirit can work for you in achieving goals - whether they're in Martial Arts class, at school, or on the job - is the backbone of Martial Arts training. The Martial Arts itself is a process by which you set goals and learn how to achieve them.

Traditional Martial Art was recently rated by Kid's Sports Illustrated as the Best Activity for children to be involved in. Baseball, football and other sports teach children how to hit homeruns, score touchdowns, and basically, how to win games. Our program develops each child to become a winner in the most important game of all... life.

Our specially structured Martial Arts programs are designed to develop and strengthen your child by building confidence, character and self-esteem. As you know, these three qualities go a long way in helping children avoid the many problems that are facing our children in today's world.

Our professional instructors will help your child to increase his/her concentration and stress the importance of setting and striving for goals. These lessons not only improve their performance in the martial arts, but in all facets in their life.

Does Karate Universe training really help children who have low self-esteem problems? It's amazing what our training can do for the child's self-esteem, and within a reasonably short amount of time. This quality derives from consistent training. Even when a child does not see the results for himself/herself, he/she should be encouraged to continue with the training. Eventually, it will manifest itself in surprising ways...

Why is structure so important in contributing to self-esteem in children?
Children expect to be told what to do; otherwise they become fearful. Rewarding them when they are good, and disciplining them when they are bad is a basic Martial Arts structure which will help them develop a pattern of accomplishments. Also giving goals to achieve between each belt rank gives them a "winning way" and "good habits".

Parents Speak Out...
The following letter is a testament to the effectiveness of our Martial Arts program and also attests to the competence of our instructors. This letter was written by the mother of one of our students.

Dear Master Dean,
I am writing to tell you that my son and I are moving to Norway June 29th,so we won't be able to renew.

I want to thank you for the incredible work you do with children and the impact you have had specifically on my son. I can't tell you how many times I have looked through the glass window and watched you in action! It is clearly evident that you love what you do and that you passion is highly contagious to the children. I've seen you encourage children with pats on the head, humor and clear instruction. These small interactions mean so much to the children who view you as a positive role model.

In the case of my son, I signed him up for Karate last year at the age of 5 because he was having disciplinary problems in kindergarten --hitting, talking out, and being hyperactive. In the first few months of Karate, you specifically showed him that not listening and being disruptive was unacceptable; he missed getting several tips in that early time period. But as time went on, he began to change -- at home, at school and Karate -- where losing a tip was now a rare occurrence. For all you have done, I am truly grateful.

Feel free to show this letter to other parents who are struggling with a high-energy, strong-willed child and/who could use the positive benefits of Karate Universe. Martial arts is a good thing, but it is the leadership you have provided -- your love of children and your passion for excellence -- that has made your school such a great success.

Thank you for being a huge positive contributor to my son's development. Be proud that you have chosen a vocation that is truly suited to your unique talents and passion, and one that makes a measurable difference in people's lives.

Thank you.

Continued success,
Lindis Courtney

"Dear Master Spyros

Although my five and a half year old son, John, has only been a student of yours for a month or so, I have already had the opportunity to see a number of positive outcomes resulting from his study of Tae Kwon Do. I wanted to take the time to share a few of them with you. Last week I was roughhousing with my son in the kitchen, and John ran over to the door and blocked the entrance. He teased me to try to get by him; I replied that I couldn't possibly. His response was, "Mom, you won't be able to get by me unless you believe you can get by me. You have to know it in your heart". I know this highly worthy sentiment is one that he learned in class, and I think it is a valuable addition to the values we are trying to teach him at home. I also would like to tell you about John's most recent class. Before class some of the students were talking about breaking boards, and John was very apprehensive. Even though breaking boards was not something that was scheduled for class that day just the mention of the possibility really discombobulated my son. Kyosanim overheard at least some of the conversation, and I am sure he could see John's discomfort. Imagine my surprise when my son came out of class after an hour, beaming, with a broken board in his hands. I can only surmise that Kyosanim felt it would be better for John to master that challenge then to have it looming ahead of him as something of which he was afraid. Later that night, after dinner, John explained that he didn't break the board on the first try, but he did succeed on the second. I suggested that perhaps that was what the commandments were addressing when they talked about "Indomitable Spirit." John countered by saying, "No, it's 'Finish what you begin,' Mom." I want you to know that I think the events that I have just recounted show what an excellent teacher Kyosanim is. He really cares about his students, and he makes them feel comfortable without compromising his expectations of excellence. He created an opportunity for John to learn that John was capable; that, ultimately, is the nature of good teaching."

Sincerely,
Jory LockWood
