Korean TaeKwonDo Association
The Korea TaeKwonDo Association (KTA) is the National Governing Body for TaeKwonDo in the Republic Of Korea. Its equivalent in the United States is the United States TaeKwonDo Union (USTU). It was established in 1961 under the name Korean TaeKwonDo Union and assumed its current name in 1965, three years after being acknowledged by the Korean Amateur Sports Association. In 1972 construction of the Kukkiwon was completed. The Kukkiwon was designed to be the headquarters of the KTA and became the world headquarters to WTF TaeKwonDo. The WTF was formed in 1973 as the international arm of the KTA and in July 7, 1994 it completed its registration with the government of Republic of Korea as a juridical foundation. It has since became the most recognized and accredited Martial Art federation in the world. The WTF is made up of TaeKwonDo National Governing Bodies not individuals or TaeKwonDo schools. Individuals may be affiliated to the WTF through their National Governing Body but individuals cannot join the WTF directly.
