I.T.F vs W.T.F
After a goodwill trip to North-Korea in 1966 General Choi, one of the original officials of the KTA, fell in disgrace in the eyes of the South-Koreans and resigned his post in the KTA. ITF TaeKwonDo concentrates on forms developed by General Choi himself. Its focus is on forms and semi-contact sparring.

Meantime the KTA expanded itself internationally in 1973 with the formation of the WTF(World TaeKwonDo Federation). The WTF initially concentrated on the Palgwe forms, and later changed from the Palgwes and started concentrating on the TaeGuks. Recognition to the WTF came when TaeKwonDo was admitted as a sport in the 2000 Olympiads in Sydney, Australia. Only members of the WTF organization are allowed to compete in the TaeKwonDo competition in the Olympic Games.

Since the original break-up (General Choi and KTA) attempts to reunite the two most recognized TaeKwonDo Federations, have had no sucess. WTF and ITF insiders and practitioners alike fear that a Union between these two federations may not be possible. Especially since only the World TaeKwonDo Federation is sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee, Karate Universe is an International Olympic Commitee sanctioned Martial Arts School via, its association with the WTF family.
